International Management Services (IMS), a provider of independent fund directors and related financial and governance services to the funds industry, has appointed James Macfee and Ruan Van Vuuren to its team of Cayman Islands based independent fund directors.

Prior to joining IMS, Macfee worked with Estera Trust (Cayman) where he acted as an independent director to hedge funds, structured finance products and CLOs. Macfee qualified as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG in the UK before joining KPMG in the Cayman Islands where he specialized on restructuring and liquidations under Cayman, BVI and Hong Kong Law. He joined IMS to act as director to a portfolio of hedge and private equity fund clients.

Prior to joining IMS, Van Vuuren was a Chief Analyst in the Investments Supervision Division of the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) where his role included approval of fund registrations, supervision of liquidations and de-registrations, consulting on new regulatory requirements, providing guidance on industry queries to fund directors and trustees, leading risk analysis of funds and licensees, managing a team within the inspection division and managing projects to fulfil new fund requirements including the AML Officer regime.

Prior to that, he was a Senior Manager with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) where he worked on the audits of a large and varied portfolio of hedge funds, PE funds, real estate and structured finance vehicles.

Paul Harris, Chairman of IMS, said: “We are very pleased to have bolstered our team of fund directors with the addition of James Macfee and Ruan Van Vuuren, both of whom complement our funds team perfectly.

Gary Butler, Managing Director said: “Ruan’s exceptional background with CIMA brings with him a level of regulatory knowledge and insight into the inner workings of the regulator in the Cayman Islands, which will be invaluable to our fund clients; and the addition of James Macfee to our fund fiduciary team comes at a time when his skillset will undoubtedly be highly desirable to fund managers, both existing and emerging.”
