CIMA supports World Investor Week

20-11-2020

The Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) joined regulators from over 100 jurisdictions to celebrate World Investor Week (WIW) 2020. Led by the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), the campaign seeks to raise awareness about the importance of investor education and protection.

The week-long event usually takes place in October; however, due to logistical issues and other challenges posed by the pandemic, regulators were given the opportunity to choose alternative weeks in October or November to stage their events. For CIMA, this year’s campaign will take place from 23 – 27 November and is designed to promote financial resilience while helping investors make sound decisions.

Key messages highlighted the basics of investing, including, among other things, the importance of understanding that all investments entail risk, learning the right questions to ask when choosing an investment, recognising the common red flags of illegal cash investment opportunities, and planning for life’s unexpected challenges in uncertain times.
