Appleby, an offshore legal services firm, has discussed Cayman’s legal framework at an industry event.

Samuel Banks, counsel at the firm, was invited to address the international 'Reinsurance Under 40s' group during their visit to the Cayman Islands on their annual educational tour of reinsurance hubs.

Banks’ presentation provided a history and overview of the Cayman’s legal framework with emphasis on the cooperative efforts it has made to lead by example in the international financial community.

His presentation included a discussion on how Cayman has set world-class transparency standards through international legal and regulatory assistance treaties and tax information exchange agreements.

Banks ended the presentation by highlighting recent innovations regarding statutory policyholder protections enshrined in the Insurance Law, 2010.

“It was a privilege to be invited to address this distinguished group of up-and-coming reinsurance professionals,” said Banks. “These types of discussions provide a valuable opportunity for us to highlight the Cayman Islands as a world leader in the financial services industry.

Simon Raftopoulos, Appleby partner, added: “We, as a firm, are pleased to be able to contribute in getting the message out about the Cayman Islands and expanding the knowledge of the next generation of leaders in the global reinsurance sector.”
